Default Starting Issues '98 s70...please help!!!

Hello. I need help badly.

I have a 98 Volvo S70 - with 100k. Everything works good except for the following problem:

Every few months, when I try to start the car, nothing happens. When I turn the key, the dash lights come and, and nothing else happens. However, if i leave the car overnight, it will start right up in the morning. This has happened three times since I bought the car in Oct 2014.

2 mechanics have told me they could not fix it, because when they tried to start it, it worked perfectly. The only sound the car makes when this happens is a slight humming that comes from the area around the starter. Other than that, no attempted to crank or anything.

I had a mechanic check the large grounds, and he said they were fine.

Can anyone help!!! This really puts me in a bind, as I never know where I will be when my volvo decided not to start.

Please help!!!

Paul

so you're saying when you go to start it and nothing happens, if you leave it overnight and don't do anything to it, then the next morning it'll start just fine? If that's the case it's going to be extremely hard to figure out what's causing it.

Default Change Starter

It could be a few things but if it were me with 100k and if the starter has never been changed I would just change the starter. I would bet that 95% of the time with what you describe it is the starter.

Check for codes. If you have no codes, it is likely the battery cable and wires that attach to it.
