Default Stuck button on the floor console shifter

The console shift button is gets stuck so you can't get the key out. What I mean is I can transition to Park , Reverse, Drive and etc...but when I'm at park the button is still engaged and can't get the key out, the botton is still engaged.. Has this happened to anyone? Can I fix this or local mechanic? What is the issue with this? Or does this require Volvo to fix? So for the hasty message...wife is going to the dealer, now to get an estimate...

Is it the button on the shifter or the override button?

I also had that problem and used a teflon bike lubricant spray. It is only a temporary fix. The problem returned - it seemed weather/ temperature dependant to a degree. The solution is to buy a new Volvo shifter which runs $50 ish and install it. I wouldn't bother just doing the button as suggested and sold by IPD. However, their website does list most of the install steps you'll have to follow up to a point. The shifter is friction fit. It's tough to take off. That's probably an understatement. Needs muscle. New one is also friction fit. I put a large dollop of di-electric grease inside the new shifter to ease it on. Don't use any other lubricants - it needs to be one that's safe for electronics.

I am assuming that you are driving an automatic. If not, my comments do not apply.

Yeah... sounds like the problem that every one of these cars will eventually have. The shifter button is stuck. You need a new shifter or button. You might get lucky and find one with a good button in a salvage yard- mine broke recently, and before I went and got a new one, I saw a leather- wrapped shifter in a salvage yard, thought "what the hell- if it's good, my problem is fixed and I get a leather shifter! Put it on, and it works fine
