Thinking of a new s70
Hi all
I am new to this forum and just wanted to seek some advice. I am planning on selling my wife’s 04 Honda Element to get out of debt. With the money I get after paying what I owe I am planning on buying a nice used car. I have heard that Volvos are notoriously safe and reliable vehicles. I like the 70's look and it seems I can get a decent one in the 5k range. Does anyone have any advice on what things in particular I should look for when purchasing an s70? Is there any number of mechanical things that need to be done at a certain mileage like a timing belt ect.? Should I go with the s70 or is another Volvo a better fit?
Thanks in advance
Joe

RE: Thinking of a new s70
1. Welcome
2. DO NOT get a 99-00 S70. They have the ETM (Electronic Throttle Module). Meaning an electronic throttle body. They go bad and Volvo has put new software out for them, but who knows when they will go bad again. Mine went at 75,000 miles. Fixed for now.
3. Will you want any type of performance? No saying you will want to perform mods to the car. But good performance in general. If so I suggest a s70 Turbo or S70T5. And for more excitement try to find a s70T5M ("M" stand for Manual transmission).
4. However if your not looking for any fun in the car just get a regular s70 base model. Great cars too. For the above and down here mentioned get 1998 models.
