Default help timing belt slip

So I was omw to work and my tensioner lost tension. I only travelled about half a kilometer before it shuddered and died. I immediatly popped the hood and inspected the motor to find that my belt was loose. I have a 2002 s40 and I need to know if there is anychance of saving my motor without taking a week to get the top end machined. I found a motor with 130, 000km for under a thousand (cash) should I jist swap the motor or should I attempt a repair? I know they are interferance motors but I don't know how severe the damage will be. Does anyone els have experience with this issue?

Wow, sorry to hear that. I would put time the motor and see if the tensioner will hold, then do a compression test.

What motor do you have? I5 or I4? Not sure if there is a difference in a saving grace.

It would also be nice if you gave a little more details about the tensioner failure.
- Where did you get it?
- What brand is it?
- Did it fail or was it possibly not installed properly?

Again, sorry to hear about the failure. I think I would pull the head and see how many valves were damaged. Maybe get a head instead of a motor.

My cams spun offset to eachother and the camshaft. I reset the timing marks and installed my old tensioner. I jave no idea if the timing is correct without pulling off the top end to see the pistons then reinstall valves while turning cams to set timing (I think). So is my next step to pull apart top end reset timing and do compression test?

I tried starting it today everything turns over but sounds like no spark. I reset the timing properly. Or so I think. I didn't pull off the top end but I'm gonna clean out cylinders with air then clean plugs as I do compression test. I expect it to b low.
