Quick poll...What are the top five things that go wrong with S70s---or---what are the top five things to look for to indicate this might be a bad S70.

I'm about ready to buy a 00 NA S70...I've done the normal stuff such as carfax and will be reviewing the maint records Saturday (the dealer selling was the same dealer that sold it new and has been servicing it)

 

- ETM problems
Make sure it was replaced and the software upgrade was done. If not have it done. It might be under Volvo's 10 yr. 200,000 mile warranty.

 

My wife drives a 2000 S70 special edition with about 95,000 miles, and it has been the most trouble free car we've ever owned.

Like the previous poster mentioned the electronic throttle bodies were problematic, so Volvo is extending the warranty to 10 years / 200,000 miles.

There was a software upgrade to the throttle bodies. If the dealer runs the VIN, they'll be able to tell if the upgrade has been done.

The only repair we've had to do on our car is to replace both the battery cable and the cable to the starter. Our Volvo tech told us that the original cables were bad, and he frequently replaces them.

 

Their really isnt a top 5 list. Atleast not that Im aware of. I have had power steering rack, wheel bearing and other stuff break. Nothing more than regular matinence. I did notice that the heater core seems to break on quite a few forum members cars. But for teh most part its a toss up on what will break. Just have the car inpected by your local volvo shop.

2.Upper torque mounts
3.A/C compressors
4.Engine mounts
5.Dash mounting tabs broken
ETM issues but most have already been upgraded or replaced.
