Default True Mileage???

I have a 1998 S70 that I acquired recently, and after some work performed on the car this week, I am doubtful that the odometer reading is true. Is it possible to communicate with the onboard computer to verify the true mileage?

I'm not sure but I think the display is reading the computer. So if someone replaces the computer, if the computer is not programmed to the car with the proper milage, it will change the milage on the car.

Often you can get service records from Volvo or North America or the local stealer. They may have a number that you can use as a reference and go from there. I purchased our S70 GLT from a guy that rolled back the milage on purpose because the car looked so good. I figured it out before I purchased the car so it was not a big deal to me but I think he rolled about 60k off of it.

If you get info from a service which stated the milage, you can use that as a reference and go from there. Our state doesn't care about milage once a car is 10 years old. All of my titles say "EXEMPT" in the milage space.

do a car fax
at least it will show the mileage each time it was sold.

It will give some sort of a baseline and show any accidents that may have
impacted a mileage reading.

You can have the true mileage read out of the on board computer.

So the display can be adjusted? Or do some people replace the display with one with lower milage?

I wonder why the display is not set up to take the milage from the computer?

Do you have to go to the dealer to get them to read it?

You can go to the dealer OR some independent shops can use their OBD2 scanners to access the mileage

So all OBD-II scanners can't read milage?
