Its one of the interfaces used by OBD2, I need to know which interface exactly so that I can order the correct OBD2 to USB adapter.

Ok, let me clear up my post so it makes more sense,
All cars past '96 have OBD2
Their are differnt kinds of OBD 2 connections, they use a differnt amount of pins:
AUDI and VW use the OBD 2 Vag-com with 16 pins
Most other cars use the OBD 2 CAN(ELM 327)
I have yet to find two sources saying the same thing for a volvo, once I find two that match then I will but the adapter.
Here is what the adapter looks like:

So does anyone know for sure what interface the volvo uses?

Scantool.net is very interesting and informative. Thanks for posting it.

I found this in the FAQs of: http://www.autoenginuity.com. It may help others top understand what CAN is. Apparently some US manufacturers started in 2003 but they were 2004 model year cars.

What is CAN?
[blockquote]
CAN is short for Controller Area Network. It will be the required electrical interface for all vehicles beginning in the model year of 2008. Some vendors began using CAN exclusively in the model year of 2004 (Ford, Jaguar, and Mazda). While other manufacturers implemented it selectively in their vehicles beginning in the 2004 model year (Mercedes, Porsche, SAAB, and Toyota for example).[/blockquote]
I have an old unit, how can I tell if the unit I purchased has CAN installed in my OBDII connector?
[blockquote]
All USB OBDII connectors are pre-built with CAN. The RS-232C version have will have eight pins for CAN-enabled version; and six for the non-CAN.
[/blockquote]

Volvo introduced the CAN system in 1999 on the S80. Then in 2001 the V70 and S60 came out with it. The S/V 40's got it in 2004/5

I believe Volvo was the first to use this system.
