Hey all,

When I start the car about 2 seconds later it turns of - but its not a sudden stall its a wind down so I am 99% sure its the immobiliser. Further to this, it doesn't start again after the first try - I have to wait 5 minutes to start it again (or dis/reconnect the battery). I read in the manual that this is the immobiliser.

I have tried both keys, and neither one works - which makes me think its probably not an issue with the ring antenna although I checked that anyway and it looks ok (no frayed wires or contacts).

Prior to this happening, I had the battery out for 1.5 days - could having the battery out reset the code in the immobiliser? Do I have to somehow reprogram the immobiliser? Is there anyway to bypass or remove it all together?

Thanks. My engine seems to be working fine now, but since I removed the battery the immobiliser is causing me grief. Thanks in advance.

 

If this happens with either let, that would mean the problem isn't the key and is more likely the antenna ring. I would try a new antenna ring since you don't need to program it.

 

Thanks, yeah most of what I have read indicates new antenna ring, although it looks so new - perhaps is shorted out when I plugged in the battery?

If I get a new antenna ring, how does the immobiliser know not to activate? Wouldn't I have to program that as well? Just curious thanks.

 

The antenna ring simply reads the key and communicates that info to the immobilizer.
