just wondering if everyone else find the same, which you max out the gears (ie till limiter comes into place), are these the kinda speed everyone's getting?

1st - 30mph
2st - 58mph
3rd ~90mph
4th ~ 120 mph
5th ~ never tried

the car is a 2.5 10v with 144bhp

ORIGINAL: Volvocars
Anyone had a Japanese car over 110?
Yes, I had my Honda CRX Si up to 120mph just after I bought it new years ago - felt fine actually, but I did that on the interstate, and not for long. My S70 has only seen 80mph, and I don't plan on doing any more than that. That's not a crack on Volvo, but the car has almost 160k miles on it, and even if it was brand new, I just think of what I am really getting out of going that speed (not much), and what the risk is (a lot), and just don't have any desire to do it. Even a Volvo won't likely save you if you have a full impact at 80+, let alone 130+...

I lived in Germany from 99-02 and did the overseas delivery option on a new custom ordered 2000 V70 before they switched to the P2 body. I ordered very little frills because I had inherited my father's '82 245 and loved that simple car. I got the manual transmission (yes, a manual transmission) and drove that thing all over Europe.
If you haven't ever driven on the autobahn, then you don't know that traffic (cars) typically travel at about 160kmph (100mph). So I too would take my V70 at 100mph all the time. On several occasions I pushed it as fast as it would go and I can (and my wife) tell you the base engine 2000 V70 can top out at close to 140mph.
I attached a photo my wife took the day I was taking the car to Munchen (Munich) for return to the states. That being my last legal opportunity to drive it to the max and you can see that I'm close to 210kmph (127mph)!!I'm on my third P1 V70 because I justlove em - once you figure them out.

Welll..... so far I know my 97 850 GLT would do 140, then I let off. My S70 T5 I haven't pushed it that far yet, but for now the T5 has done 110 with no problem.

My 04 S60R, with advanced chassis setting did 145 very quickly and stable... I let off.

My top speeds-

S70- 85mph
BMW 318is- 95mph
Xterra -95mph
2000 Mustang GT- 135mph
1994 Impalla SS- 161mph (back in 2002)
1991 Mazda Rx-7- 155 mph (2 years ago)
2005 CBR f4i- 168mph (3 years ago)
1995 Kawasaki Ninja Zx-6r- 160mph (1 year ago)
1988 Rx-7 convertible- 139mph @ 5500rpm- several years ago..

Other then that nothing noteable.I have grown up a lot, I really dont do stuff like that anymore.. Most of these speeds were GPS verified. The attached picture is the Rx-7 convertible at a local abandoned airstrip.. The SS was pegged out. But the rest of the cars still had some left.. The bikes werent close to topped out.. I just got scared.

Ah jeez, I'm a lightweight in this category. The fastest I've ever been with 98 T5 is about 101 mph only

Although, the ride was so smooth that I had to slow down because I thought I was going to take to the air. I know she's capable of much much more than that though.

Update on my 99 S70 T5, since I did the tbelt and general maintenance, I took it out last night after washing it to "dry" it off. I got her up to 130 and then shut it down as a curve was coming up and some headlights appeared over the horizon.

ive done 125 in my t5 but its in horrible shape so i was scared to go faster. I know it could push a lot more i believe the people who said they did 150. I might try it again but i do atleast 80 on the highway all the time and its fine.

That is true, but we are still limited on the gearing and the size of our rear end. For example: my 745T Est top speeds is only at 130ish with AW71 trans and 4.10 rear end. If I change that to a T-5 trans with a 3.5ish rear end, then I would be able to go 160+

Anyway.....Speed kills, so be carefull, and only do it on a enclosed road or track!

Smile Rock solid at 125

Hi there, new here. Hit 125 recently, had an 'P' reg scooby being a dork behind me. Let him go then caught him again to his surprise !!! Made my day. Drove like a dream and lovin' the car. Starting to mod mildly, dropped onto 215/40/17's, just watch the potholes. K&N filter, tints & audi R8 sidelights going in soon.

I've done about 125 in my '00 V70, out of all the cars it's definitely the most stable feeling at high speeds. I have no doubt it can go faster but I don't think I need to try.

2006 kia spectra: about 125MPH (maxed out)
1996 Honda Civic: 125MPH (not stable enough to go any faster)
1996 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP: 117MPH (governed big time, as in it cuts off the motor's power completely unless you slow down)
1989 Toyota Supra Turbo: 140MPH (scary but would have gone faster)
1991 Acura Integra: 130MPH
1993 Chevrolet Cavalier: 120MPH (governed)

LOL!!! Had to take our GLT to about 125 to show that Maxima a thing or two. I later took photos of the GPS unit & ScanGauge II that keeps the max speed until it's reset. Three adults in the car with a trunk load of stuff (still gaining speed).

Found something like 130 in the GPS, daughter driving.

Got the 960 up to 116 mph. It maxed out there with 3 adults in the car and a trunk load of stuff. Got a ticket within a hour later for going 76 in a 60. (Can't make up my mind to smile or frown).

Had a '95 Honda Prelude (2.0) up to about 120 or 125. Thing felt like it was barely on the road which wasn't so smooth.
