Why ABS and TRACS come on after new tires?
I bought new tires and noticed after driving less than 5 miles, I heard a strange noise and my ABS and TRACS lights came on. It stayed on until I turned off the car and then when I started the car again, it went off after going a bit faster but will intermittantly continue to do this. It has been doing this for a month on and off. It typically makes the strange noise (not really a clicking, but a definite noise) and then the lights come on. I can always correct it by turning off the car and then reaching a certain speed but it comes back eventually. The only other real recent work done before the tires was the dealer put in a new cylinder lock/ignition because the car was very hard to start and sometimes wouldn't start at all but that was a few hundred miles before the tires were put on. The tires came from Discount Tire. I live about an hour from the closest dealer (I live out in the middle of no where). Does this sound like an issue related to the new tires? The car seems to brake fine. Also in the past few months, I had the driver's door window switch pod replaced just before the lock cylinder, I am getting tired of the issues! Basically, I am trying to figure out if the tires caused this and if it is a safety issue.
Thanks.
the clicking should happen at 12mph, its an abs system check - which would explain why the lights dont come on until that noise. im guessing an abs sensor was damaged when the tires were changed
If they didn't damage one of the ABS sensors (ck for ABS codes) then ck the tires closely; suspect one or more of them are different sizes. This will cause the wheels to rotate at slightly different speeds; which will throw an ABS fault.
Also could be a tire low on air pressure, but assume you have ckd that already.
