`99 Volvo S80 transmission
Well, my wife feel in love with this car and she thought Volvo lasted for ever (yes we did not do our research on the S80). Well we (I do say we since she is my wife and I liked the car also) bought an 99 Volvo S80 T6 with 113,000 miles on it. I really enjoy but I havent heard any success or "feel good" stories from anybody. The ironic thing is that I purchased a 3 year/36000 miles extended warranty when I bought it. Kinda a crazy that they would offer that but that was the selling point for me on the car. Well, a service transmission ASAP" light came on and I brought it to a Independent Volvo mechanic shop and he said he has seen it before and that the GM transmission that they put in it is slipping and he can feel it when he drives it. He hasnt opened the transmission but said it would be better to replace the whole unit. Also that is is more cost efficent than replacing ever gear and part inside of it. Has anybody ever heard this before. The guy seems straight forward and it wont cost me anything since I purchased a warranty(well to be without a car). Also what is the average price for a Volvo Reman transmission? Any advice would greatly be appreciated.

Tech thanks again,
Also do I go to the dealership and ask for a complete update of all downloads I am missing or do you have go in and ask for the software download for slipping and hardshift problems. How much are we talking to update software and such. Thanks. OHH, What is the Valve body and are they expensive.

The valve body is pretty expensive to replace. You haven't told me if your warranty is good at the dealer. If it is they might do the software under warranty. If not it is like $30.00 for the software and a 1/2 to 1.0 labor. If your warranty is good at the dealer just bring it there and tell them the trans seems to be slipping. They will take it from there. They will try to make sure all the software is in there and then test drive and see if it is better.
