Default 1999 S80 02 Sensor - tough choices AHEAD

Hello,

I have been very happy with my 1999 2.9 S80. It currently has 95k miles on it and I was hoping to keep it for another couple of years. Here is my problem - my check engine light has been on for about 2 1/2 years now. The dealer said I needed 4 o2 sensors for around 1400 parts and labor. There was an old garage that would pass inspection based on an exhaust gas test. This year they upgraded to a computer and I failed with a message PO160 O2 SENSOR CIRCUIT NO ACTIVITY BANK2 SENOR 2).

While i really like this car, it's trade-in value is around 3800 per the dealer and they said I may be able to get around 4800 privately if I am lucky since I have GPS and it has recently had lots of maintenance and key things replaced. I asked if I should try on my own to change them and I was told the exhaust system would have to be taken apart.

I cant help but remember that once a code came back that my transmission was failing and they wanted to replace it. I insisted they reflash the computer module and the code went away.

I would appreciate any wisdom or opinions about this. I hesitate to put 1500 into a car that is only worth 3800. Also, putting that money in would not really increase the value if I was to sell the car.

Thanks!!!

Based on the code, you have one bad sensor. I would just replace it. It is located after the left/drivers side converter.
