Default 1999 S80 Just started acting stupid

Good morning.
I am posting for a friend who started having some weird issues this morning with her S80. I can't really explain it but I can only pass on the information provided to me.
As she was driving to work, her car started experiencing some minor chugging as she slowly accelerated.
That escalated from minor chugging to the car dying as she was moving: brake was stiff as a rock as was emergency brake.
As she pulled over safely, she tried to start the vehicle, it would start - rev up - shut down.
Never could get the vehicle started.
Thoughts, or is this still vague information?
TIA
Terry

starting with the brake issue - if you loose vacuum in the booster the pedal will be hard to press. If the engine also starts running poorly, it could be due to a vacuum leak messing up the mixture so the two may be related. Not sure what would make the emergency brake stiff unless the ebrake shoes in the rear were binding or the cables are stuck (like its unrelated to the engine unless it only chugs when driving as if the ebrake is stuck on). If the car stalls out or chugs when in neutral or when not moving then I'd inspect the vacuum hoses going up to the brake booster.

Thank you MT.
Well we just heard back from the garage. After replacing the battery (apparently that was in need of replacement), they put the computer on it and the diagnostics came back as "Throttle Body".
I'm at their mercy. I have read a lot on the throttle body issues in the past. Is the cost - approximately $600ish for the part reasonable?
Thanks
Terry

depends on what is really wrong with the ETM ("electronic throttle module"). There are contacts in the ETM that can fail and there's kits available to replace the contacts. If you need a full rebuild, XeMODeX and a few other shops rebuild them (cheaper than buying a new unit). If you buy a used replacement the dealer will need to reprogram to pair to your car or you can have XeMOXex do a clone to make the replacement plug and play.
