I have a 1999 S80 and the steering wheel is binding on the plastic of the column cover behind it. If I pull wheel towards me it frees up and moves 1/4 inch away from plastic tilt column cover? Any one have any ideas what could have caused this? The plastic on both back of wheel and column is chafing. This worries me because wheel wont snap back after a turn because of the binding. Thanks in advance.

 

It ever been in a wreck? Some columns feature crush sleeves to give a little in an accident. I don't know if Volvo employs this, but it might be something Tech can answer for you to be certain.
