Well my first post on the board. I have been the owner of a 1997 850 t-5 sedan that I purchased from my local volvo dealer and have loved it. I purchased it w/ 150k miles on it and now have 183k. The only thing I have ever done was put gas/oil/tires and had the control arm replaced (oct. 2006)... But I am looking at trading it in on a 2000 S80 T6 w/ 75k miles from a family friends dealership.

Looking at the previous posts it seems that the reliability ranges all over the place from great to horrible... The carfax says it is a 2 owner and the last person had it in 2x's for servicing. My question is how much can a volvo dealership find out from the VIN re: the maintanance on the vehicle?

Depends. I was one of the LUCKY LUCKY few. I bought mine private party Fortunately enough the last two owners whohad the car had itserviced at the same dealership with all the documentation of all work done at the dealer since the car was new in 99.

If you know what dealer the vehicle was purchased from and give them your VIN number, usually all the work done is stored in the computer for reference. I.E. everything I have on paper is in the computer system.

I brought mine pre-owned (not sure how many but it was in great conditon overall) with 21,000 miles on it at the time. So far I've had my issues here and there; but that is to be expected nonetheless (it's like the "perfect girl" itdoesn't exist but it's close).
