Volvo 850 Cranks, Sparks, Fuel Pump yet does not start 850 1994
3 days ago it was quite cold and I could not get my 850 to start. It cranked and because of the -20 I figured it wouldent go. The next day I tried it, nothing just a click. I put it in the garage (with some manual labor)and there it sat untill I was able to get at it today. I come to find out that the starter was to blame for the just click. So I replaced that and now it will crank over. It sounds like a totally different car, but it will not start.
Fuel pump controler was switched with a one from my parts 850 and the car has spark. The fuel pump acuates and does its cycle.
Any thoughts as to the cause? The car ran great before this.
I initally thought It could have something to do with the vaccum lines above the radiator which I disconnected when replacing the starter. I may have them set up wrong? I took the computer module boxes out and put them inside to warm up incase that was the cause about 2 days ago. did it reset or something?
Thank you in advance.

Any codes in the system?

If you have fuel, spark,Injector pulse then it should start.
Does it sound like it has low compression.

Yes could very well be low compression. Sounds from reading like it has LMS (lawn mower syndrom?) and the code box is missing from this perticular 850 so its a hunt.
Thank you.
Thank you.
If it sounds like low compression make sure the battery is fully charged and if you can leave the charger on.
Then push and hold the gas pedal to the floor before turning the key on. Then keeping gas pedal to the floor crank that motor over for a while. If the lifters are collapsed it will take like 2 to 3 minutes or more of cranking to pump them back up. Keep it cranking. If it sounds like it is going to crank just keep going till it starts.

I will try it tomorow. While I'm at it I was wondering. Is it possible that during the attempted start at -20it jumped time?
Thank you, anything else?
Not that I can think of Maybe Mass Flow sensor. If it doesn't start trying the other thing unplug the Mass Flow sensor and try to start it.
Nothing else right now. Try to find the Diag plug and pull the codes. If it isn't on the ECU box check below it and see if it fell down.
Looks like it was the ol' lawnmower syndrome.
Cranked it for around three and a half minutes and it popped off and went.
Why is it called lawnmower syndrome?
Thank you!
