Default Help, S80 will start but not run

I have a 98 S70 GLT, and I'm looking at a 2001 S80 2.9 non-turbo to buy, it's in really good condition.. only thing is it doesn't run. Sometimes it starts but it quickly dies, the engine was just rebuilt. To me it sounds like it could be simple like a big vacuum leak, the timing may we wayy off, i don't know..

The volvo dealership told the owner that it needs a rebuild, but it just got rebuilt! It's a really good deal so I want to get it, but not if it's going to need a new engine of course..

If you really really want the car. First, download the Volvo Vadis.

Do research on the car...Get the VIN....Check Recalls, ect.

Depending on what your budget is the core issue..

Regular Maintance will cost you about 1k a year or more.

Volvo's are not for the faint of heart.

Lol she knows this first hand, she has had to fix a few minor issues with hers recently! Did you ever get all of them fixed?

To OP:
Anyways, you say a good deal, but how good of a deal? Also I bought s80 turbo for like $4500 and have only done suspension/regular maint. so far, knock on wood. But if by good deal you mean $3k or higher, then I would just find a working volvo! But you could always get a shop to look at it before you buy it, and if minor should be worth it, just don't tell the original owner so they don't go up on price! Also if the shop says "it might be" then you might just not want to get it, if they say "it is for sure this" then okay maybe.

Yes, I did. all by myself too.. That stupid EVAP leak was so small, hard to believe it thru a code.

Now, my 16 year old son says it has more power. I can't wait til I can get him a Volvo so he will leave mine alone. Not only is mine called the Batmobile but now the date car. Sad to say, but he looks awesome driving it....lol..Hope I look as good..lol
