Do you have a volvo specilist indipendant shop near you?
it would be cheaper there.

I decided to go ahead and have everything done. I'm getting the timing belt, tensioner, idler pulley and thermostat replaced tomorrow. My quote is $890.00 which is more than I would've liked to spend but I feel better getting this done sooner than later.

Yeah, I just got a call from the dealership. There's more recommended work. The front engine mount should be replaced and the PCV needs to be replaced. It's turning into an expensive day but the car should be good to go for quite some time after this. Of course most of the cost to me is labor, but at $100/hour it's not cheap.

I decided to just stay with the dealership and pay the piper. They ended up replacing all of that, my PCV and the front engine mount for $1355. It was an expensive day but I should be good for a LONG time on the periodic maintenance. I may have been taken to the cleaners a bit, but it does feel good just being done with it. My jaw dropped at the price so I asked for 10% discount and got it, and that's how I got down to $1355, so it would've been higher if I hadn't asked for it.
tech, what do you guys charge for a throttle body cleaning? My dealership wanted about $165 for it whichseemed a bit high. I didn't get it done cause the cars been running great, but I'm just curious.

The whole set up should last you until 105K. However anaged belt may start to crack and then should be replaced. If you can see cracks along the outerside of the belt; its an over due job.
If the belt was damaged this no longer applies;
It could be due to oil leakage on to the belt or a object being caught between the gears.
When you tried tostart the engine didit sound like it was cranking"faster than usual"?
A good cylinder head job vs. a junkyard motor... I would rather repair a motor I know than go with an unknow variable. How much history do you have on you current motor?

I've been informed that the engine was damaged when the belt broke. i was expecting that from the advice I've receive so far from the forum. My technician has suggested we go with another engine in the car. He states that I'd be better off replacing the engine, considering the amoun of money it will cost to repair existing damage. Does anyone know where I can get a good used/rebuilt engine for 2000 Volvo S80 non-turbo w/ a warranty?
