2001 s80 rebuild
Hello all. New guy here.
I have a 2001 S80 that had the timing belt break.
I'm assuming at least the head and valves are damaged.
I'm just going to do the rebuild or replace myself.
I've already found and pulled a head off of a 96 960 wagon. (partially just to check out the 2.9 engine and see how it works/ comes apart)
I've also already found a used 2.9 out of a 2004 s80.
Will either of these parts work in my 2001?
according to the s80 Wikipedia page there is one engine for 98 - 01 and one engine for 01-04 but the displacement and configuration look the same.
Anyone know the differences between the two engines and their swapability?
Thanks for your help.
I'll update this post with my progress as I go.

so the heads and the head covers are different between the 960 and the s80 2.9 engines. The whole variable cam timing assembly doodad looks different. I'm assuming the cams are different also but I didn't really measure them.
I've already found and removed another head; This one off of another 2001 s80 2.9.
According to alldata you don't need to remove the engine to time it. Looks pretty tight to me. I'll search it some more and see what I think.
Alldata also goes into depth about all of the things that need to be reset because of the battery being removed. lol
I'll post some pics tomorrow
