Default 2002 S80 low end miss and hesistation

Her car....so she was about 2 blocks from home today and all of a sudden the check engine light starts flashing, and at stoplights, etc., it acts like it wants to die, but doesn't. After accelerating up to normal 4lane street speed (40mph) car runs fine, check engine light stays on solid. Just started doing this today, any ideas where to start?
OH...car is a non-turbo 6 cylinder, just fyi. Thanks for your help!!!

Place to start is always reading the trouble/fault codes. Most auto parts stores have generic OBD (on-board diagnostic) readers that'll at least point you in the right direction. For a comprehensive analysis you'll need a Volvo-specific code reader, however. I use this one http://www.ppc-diagnostic.com
