low idle miss 90 740 gl wagon
First of all I have found good tips here, thanks for the help. I recently saved a 1990 740 from rotting under a tree. It's in good shape but I have a low rpm miss. I replaced the plugs wires and cap n rotor. I also cleaned the throttle body. All gave improvements but didn't cure it all. I just learned how to read the codes. Haven't done it yet. The car runs great going down the road but tries to die when you stop in gear. It always starts no matter what weather. It also likes to idle at 1500 rpm. Sometimes it doesn't want to take gas when you go to leave a stoplight. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I was told it could be a air mass meter, but I can't find the one I see pictures of. The big can looking thing.

I understand where it is supposed to be. But the one I have looks nothing like what I'm seeing for sale or in tech books. I checked the codes last night, nothing there. Today on the way to work I got a check engine light. I will check the codes again. The throttlebody clicks as soon as you turn it. If it helps I will get some pics of What I think is the mass air.

If you make any adjustment to the idle screw, I assume this will thrown off the TB and it will have to be re-adjusted (the click) to meet this change in the idle. Is that correct.
Thanks

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. Here is the pictures of what I'm talking about. After some digging on the internet, I believe it actually is a air charge temp sensor. The check engine light code says this is whats wrong. I also sent a picture of the throttle body. I assume by your post this is the one without the black ****. The engine compartment is a bit of a mess. Last night I blew the upper radiator hose. What can expect from a $300 investment. But hey it still gets me to work.

Last night I adjusted the throttle body. It helped some but I believe I will need the mass sensor before I truly fix the problem. I found it online at a place called www.rockauto.com It was only $40 plus shipping. I should have it in a few days. Also I'm going to get the injectors cleaned. Judging by the throttle body they have to be crudy.

Yeterday I took the car for a fuel system cleaning. To my surprise the mechanic said it would be a waste of money. It seems the intake manifold gasket is leaking. So to some it up a $6 part is causing my grief. I'll let you know how it runs afterwards. I plan on doing this myself since he wants $150 to do it.
