2004 Volvo S80 bad gas mileage
I bought a used 2004 Volvo S80 (2.9L straight-6; no turbo) with 94k miles about 3 weeks ago from the big Volvo dealer (Gorges Volvo; very trustworthy) here in Omaha. The car has been well taken care of (called original owner too) and the Carfax shows it as well. I am concerned about the gas mileage. The car's computer says I'm getting about 20mpg "average" (spot on EPA's estimate for city) all the time but, I'm calculating it to be 12mpg (city) using the trip computer and gas I pumped (not from sketchy gas pumps, mind you). The car has no malfunction lights on the instrument panel and otherwise runs great. I've done the basic stuff, like check the air filters and oil but, I am still baffled, as I drive like a grandma (slow starts, time the lights, etc). I'm running on fresh 10% Ethanol (89 Octane) gas because that's what's cheapest in Nebraska and the Volvo mechanics said that's perfectly alright on a non-turbo engine.
Thanks in advance guys. Other than this issue, I'm loving my first Volvo!

Also make sure the tire pressure is properly inflated too....
