I've browsed through some of the past threads on this issue, but never really saw whether or not it's safe not to flush the tranny fluid.

I have 59k on my 2007 and am really starting to worry about transmission maintenance. Some in past forums say that the recommended maintenance is the way to go and that a flush is actually bad for the tranny while others swear not flushing it will lead to transmission failure. I want to do it and (of course) my local Volvo dealer recommends it, but I want to make sure this maintenance will extend the life of my components rather than hurting them.

Any new info on this issue? Does a flush somehow weaken the seals? Should I go ahead and have the shop perform the maintenance?

 

Ours will be done at 40k, I dont think there is any issue with theses trannys and flushing (I speak of the 3.2). Not doing it is asking for trouble IMO.

 

There is no such thing as lifetime fluid, IMO.
But I agree with the post above.
Have them change it out. Only thing to be concerned with a trans flush is if you wait too long to have it done, and then it compromises the seals and such. Make sure you use the proper fluid and go ahead with the maintenance.
