2008 s80 control arm strut removal
Any info would be greatly appreciated,, I have a 2008 s80 FWD 3.2.. What is best procedure for strut and control arm removal? Is there a special Volvo tool for collapsing spring while mounted in car to remove from spindle?
Thanks for any info!!
Thanks for any info!!
are you asking about how to separate the bottom of the strut from the steering knuckle? there's some vids on Youtube that talk to how to replace the struts and control arms in a Volvo - look at other models in the 2008 range as they use similar designs. I believe your car has the design where the strut inserts into the knuckle (vs the older cars which have two horizontal bolts). you should be able to separate the knuckle by removing the wheel, removing the sway bar end link (consider moving the brake caliper - dunno if that's a must...) then remove the through bolt on the bottom of the strut. Leave the strut attached at the top- then tap on the knuckle with a mallet to get it to slide down. PB Blaster is your friend so consider wetting all bolts a couple days before and let some driving vibrations work it in... Once the knuckle is separated you can remove the top bolts and work the strut on the bench or start in on the control arm.
