Default 208hp to 270hp with a chip?

Someone at tirerack told me their son chipped his 2.5 volvo s80 and went from 208 to 270 hp that way? I assume its possible but am worried it would overheat the turbo eventually taking it out with other weaker items like maybe the 5 speed auto?

thx

There are VERY few manufacturers that support aftermarket mods on Volvos and they mostly support the T6 engines. That said, there are some ECU upgades available from various vendors that will boost the power around 250ish (I haven't seen a 2.5T listed much higher).

The "chip upgrades" are also a matter of swapping ECU components with the developers (although some you can order a new ECU and have it shipped and then ship them back yours for a price/deposit). Like any modification, you will put stress on other components, even beyond the obvious like the Turbo and Transmission, but it can also cause internal damage to the engine, exhaust (if it runs hot), etc.

... and 93 octane gas for fuel mappings... boost changes. Possible injector changes...

And when it goes wrong, it goes wrong in a big way.
