Have an 850 with over 200,000 miles and was thinking about picking up a s80 from the 2000 to 2004 era. Any years preferred or years to stay away from. Ron

with every year in that series, the s80 became better and more reliable.. 2002+ is normally a safe bet, but i think the 04 model is the best looking of the lot

 

Nice picture - I see what you mean. Any thoughts on what milage is too many to start out with. Thinking of using the S80 for 3 or 4 years at about 12,000 miles a year.

 

Hmm,, i started my 02 out at 96,000 so really nothing is too much once you maintain the ride properly.. just make sure the tranny and engine timing are in good shape and your good to go

 

Stay away from 6-cylinder models (unless you're sure all the issues have been addressed). Bad O2 sensors, bad transmissions. Look for the 5-cylinder models (04 and up). They came with the better 5-speed auto transmission.
