I jus bought a 99' Volvo S80 with 144k I found out the girl I bought it from was down shifting the auto transmission so she could slow down easier[:@] cause her breaks were bad..(warped rotors got them turned 20 bucks later and new pads it stops great).. Now the transmission slips in 1st gear when it gets warm. Is this a problem I can fix by flushing out the tranny fluid? or is this a dealership bound trip.. ?

Fluid full? How dirty is it? Has all software been updated?

 

Hate to tell you but your rotors will probably warp again. Volvo does not recommend turning rotors.

Well... at $67 a rotor I think I'll wear these out then buy new ones ... I'm laid off so this car was kinda bought before that happened... but thanx for the tip, I'm new at this line of car I'm use to working on honda's and Suby's WRX engine swaps and what not... this car def has more recalls than any honda I've driven, but it is faster and rides alot better so I guess I'll keep it.

 

Well... I'm kinda new to the Volvo's so I haven't a clue as to what software needs updated.. the car was owned by a girl who had no wrenching knowledge at all soo I might be in for a trip. So do I go to a dealers shop to get the car's software updated ? and how much does that usually cost cause I have alot of dummy lights that are on and off... depending on the mood that the car seems to be in.

 

The software is usually 30.00 for the software and .5 to 1.0 labor.
