99 S80 need to replace Crank Sensor
I haven't had much luck resolving the starting problem so I dropped the car at a somewhat local service place that specializes in German and Swedish cars. They pretty much did all of the things that I have done with no luck. They even contacted a dealer for suggestions but can't figure it out.
They are suggesting that I go to a dealer with the hopes that the proprietary diagnostic equipment will have better luck.
I am going to mess with it for the weekend and see if I can stumble on something. If I can't I will be dropping it at a dealer. That will be the last step before I buy another car.
As much as I love the car I am not sure I will buy another volvo.

I have picked up the car and finally got a chance to work on it. I am in the northeast and we have been having a heck of a winter.
the ground strap from the tranny to the engine has not had any effect.
I have gotten a new code that I have not gotten before.
It is "650 MIL control circuit malfunctionl". It would appear that this has something to do with the power train control system. I will have to do a little research on this one.

I got a call from the dealer and they have diagnosed a bent flywheel. He is daying that the tranny guy damaged the flywheel when re-installing the flywheel. I know that there are finger like things on the flywheel that are counted by the crank sensor and I am assuming that these must have been bent.
He is quoting 1600 to replace the flywheel.
I have not actually seen an s80 flywheel but any fly wheel I have ever seen is very thick and heavy metal. I assume that the actual flywheel is not bent but instead the finger like tines that are on the outer edge. Is there anyone that could give me some input on the flywheel. Could the actual flywheel be bent by simply installing a tranny or is it most likely that the some of the fingers have been bent.
I am going to call the tranny guy back and see what he has to say.
I would very much like to hear from anyone who could offer some insight into the diagnosis.

Well the S80 is back at the Tranny guy and he has agreed to replace the flywheel. I will give him credit he has at least stepped up to stand by his work. He has pulled the tranny and says the flywheel looks fine but he is going ahead and replacing it anyway. Boy! I hope this is the answer. This guy will be pretty pissed if the spends all this time on my car for nothing.
If this doesn't work I am not sure which way to turn.
I will update as soon as I get the results of the flywheel change.

I think I have a similar problem, Slow to start, tach jumps for starting, and battery seems to drain fast if I don't start it for a couple days, I need to charge it before starting. I also get code number P0335 crankshaft position sensor, but I'm not sure that that would cause my battery drain? Any ideas about the battery drain(Battery is only about a-year-old). Thanks
Update, changed out the crank position sensor and cleared the code, has been good so far.
I'm thinking the battery drain issue must be something else, searched for parasitic drain on the site didn't find anything, but I'm sure there must be something on here about it. If you're able to find the link let me know. Thanks

If I go out to start the car after it sat for two days the tachometer would jump before finally starting after four or five tries, I found that if I hit the yellow button on the key Fob to turn the lights on before I get into the car and then I start the car it usually won't do the tachometer jump, maybe this will help someone else out if they have this problem. Still not sure what the problem is, Or why giving it a few seconds of electrical activity before starting the car would help? I had previously insulated the power wire to the starter with aluminum tape and changed out three different crank position sensor's but none of that has been a long-term fix.
Here's a video of the problem
