ABS & Check engine question

ABS & Check engine question
99 Volvo S80 question - I had purchased an ABS module about 3 years ago & I was wondering what is the life expectancy on a rebuilt module, I am considering changing the ABS sensors because I recently have been getting a message that say ABS service required/ABS brake service required and the Check Engine light is also came on last night,I was wondering before i go crazy & buy stuff could this be a faulty ABS module or maybe one of the sensors, the ABS message came on a week before doing my brakes which weren't worn just yet but I had a few trips to Pennsylvania & wanted to be sure I had good brakes. I do apologize if some one has posted this question but I had searched & didn't find one specific to the S80, as for everything else the car has not given me any problems whats so ever. runs great I replaced the front struts which I think one may have been defective because when I hit bumps it sounds like air being pushed out of a squeaky toy but other than that she's been a great car even though NYC streets must resemble the streets of Afghanistan with all these pot holes. I hear so many bad experiences with these cars I guess I'm one of the lucky ones.

It is not too hard, and these years you do NOT need software, but, the tool used to take it off is hard to find. It is a inside torx, size E5.
although this is most likely the problem, a scan should be done.
oh, the module is about $600.00 and usually the car will not have accurate mileage anymore, but you have to keep an eye on it.

the tool turns out not to be so hard to find Im in NYC & went to home depot & got it was surprised because the auto parts don't carry it but I took a chance at home depot & what do you know they had plenty of them lol, as for the message for some reason it has disappeared including the check engine light, Im still gonna have AAMCO check it for me maybe there is some lose wire or faulty sensor. since NYC streets resemble the craters that those road side bombs in Afghanistan leave behind I think it's the pot holes that are shaking things apart

My ABS module went bad (2001 S80) and I had it repaired. Sent the unit to a guy in CA and within a week i had it back--been a year or so and the unit is working fine. total cost was $150 or so.
