Default bad cat, suggestions?

Just got my car back from the shop, with three codes.

ecm-4801
ecm-4901
ecm-6806

I was told by the mechanic that the cats were bad on the vehicle, the car I have noticed does really bad on gas, 12mpg-14mpg.

It has crappy acceleration and feels very slow, I have noticed that if i take it on the interstate and slam on the gas a few times that the car will feel faster, no idea what to do from here, the cats are about as much as i paid for the car.

Since i don't have emissions in Idaho can I just take the honeycomb crap out and run it? I know it will still give me a check engine light but at least it will be better on gas. Thanks.

I have replaced TCV twice, bought a new unit from VOLVO and new hoes.

Sounds like you only have a couple of choices. If your mechanic is right and the cats are bad... driving it with that condition "could" damage the engine terminally. Some exhaust repair shops can replace your stock cats with some much less expensive universal generic units... if they will, or, well... you already stated your other options.
