Default Black covering on S80 outside window frame

First post on VF. Great resource here. Avid forum lurker/searcher for things I'm interested in (F250, slammed Mazda, computers, cell phones, car racing, etc.).

Long story short, I've been searching for a 2002-2004 S80 T6 as a family car. Using Carfax for research, as well as a lot of searching here, some due diligence with the owners and looking the cars over very carefully (not new to working on cars, rebuilt a couple v8s, a BMW 3 series 3.0L I6 motor, lots of other self maintenance, etc., etc.). We're not in a hurry or bind for a vehicle (we can use the F250 as a family vehicle, but it's not the most smart on fuel .

We've looked at a few S80s locally (and a few S60s thrown in), and came across something I've not seen.

This particular 2002 S80 T6 is a one owner car, low miles (~67K), and appears to be very well maintained. I can see just about every maintenance record both in his files on the car, as well as on Carfax. Just a few door dings, and a scuff on the front bumper.

So...the black plastic covering on the drivers door window has some physical damage....and I'm not sure what caused it, or how difficult it would be to replace. It looks like it's detached on the edge, and wrinkled on this edge. Think of a large piece of flat cloth on a flat floor. If you pushed the cloth with your finger in one direction, on one side, the cloth would wrinkle on that side, exposing the floor underneath. This damage is on the front edge of the back upwards track of the drivers window, but on the outside (where the two doors meet, but on the window track side). Maybe something was caught between the window going up and the track itself (like a toy being jammed and the window didn't stop trying to go up)? It covers about an area of 6-8 inches, but less than a half inch wide.

I didn't ask the owner (forgot, unfortunately), but will if the wife decides she wants to go look at the car (it is the wrong color however, she wants silver, this one is the goldish silver).

Any ideas on this? Maybe a break in attempt? Something caught in the track?

Is this covering a part I can buy and replace?

Thanks much for any insight.

Default RE: Black covering on S80 outside window frame

Is it the sticker looking thing that all the doors have from between the top of the door and the roof?
If so it is a sticker and shrinks over time. They pretty much all do it.

What alot of people are doing is having the stickers removed and either having it painted flat black or body color.
