Default Any Way To Replace Cracking Dashboard Airbag Covering?

The covering on my '96 960 dashboard airbag has multiple cracks and looks pretty bad. The rest of the dashboard is in great condition. Is anyone aware of a easy way to re-cover or replace the airbag cover?

Pretty sure the answer is NO! You have to replace the whole thing as a unit--tampering with it may cause you injury or worse. I wonder what caused the cracks? Many Volvos pass through my hands and I don't remember ever seeing one suffering from what you describe, especially not one as recent as a '96. It must be some salve someone has been applying as part of detailing it may be...

Thanks for your reply. I got the car used last year and the vinyl covering on the airbag was already cracking. The car originally came from Florida so I'm thinking the cracking is a result of being exposed to lots of hot weather.

Looks like my best option is to buy one of those dashboard covers made from carpet or suede but I was hoping that someone knew of something else that could be used.

I recognize that this is an old thread, but my car, that lives in OH, spent most of its life in Kentucky horse country, has a cracked airbag cover...I have watched the cracks widen this past summer, and it just looks terrible. If I buy a salvage/used airbag, is it just a plug-and-play scenario or will that trigger a trip to the dealer to reset something?

"Plug and play". Just disconnect the battery while working on the SRS.

I appreciate it, Lev! Next time I'm feeling energetic I'll take a stab at this. The better the car looks, the better I feel about it.
