Buying a higher milage S80 V8
Hi all,
I am looking to buy an '08 S80 V8 with higher milage. In addition to the standard mechanical items to look at, is there anything in particular I should pay close attention to when inspecting it? I know that the early V8's suffered a balance shaft bearing problem but I believe this was fixed on the '06 onwards models. How is the transmission - do they tend to last beyond 200,000 or maybe 300,000kms? Where do the engines typically leak from?
I've had a few Volvos over the years, but what gets my interest with this S80 is that it is based on the same platform as the Mondeo which I've also owned in the past.
Thanks!

Well, it would be better if the struts have been replaced, also listen for a whining in the power steering, you may need to replace power steering reservoir as it is not serviceable, and has a filter in it, odd and not in the manual. My 2007 V8 AWD has 118000 was cared well. You might consider quickly dropping the skidplate to reveal the the oil filter area. Look for leaks, they will be very apparent on the other side of the skidplate. A simple hex and a hand driver will do to remove it, takes 5 minutes. I never tried removing it without ramps though.
