Default A/C compressor Thermal Cutout switch

Can someone identify the thermal cutout switch in the attached picture? I want to know how to bypass it.

It is not shown there. It is usually located in the back at the bottom. There is 2 wires coming out of it. But if you follow the wires that are still connected just to the bottom of the black bracket. The one that also holds the white plug you have unplugged it should go to the clutch on one side and the sensor on the other.

This should be of help to others to identify the Thermal Cutout Switch and it's function. Look at the notes on the pictures. In short, the TCS is an inline switch between the +12V power that goes to the clutch magnet. When the switch gets hot, the circuit opens, and then when it cools off again the circuit closes. Pretty simple. The Low / High pressure circuit switches are upstream of the TCS and still have control over the compressor clutch even if the TCS is bypassed.

(An engineering comment -- bimetallic switches are mechanical and effectively become "weaker" over time when subjected to high thermal cycling rates)

Default Thermal Cutoff switch

Hey I seem to have the same problem you were having. I have an 2000 s80 and I think I have narrowed it down to this. The only question is I see the thermal switch on the far right side of the comressor, that need to be spliced together, but what about the +12v wire that is shown running along the bottom towrds the left side. Do I need to cut those as well like it looks like you did in the picture? Thanks Josh

I hope you know this is a 4 year old thread.
My question is why would anyone want to bypass the thermal switch? If it's defective then replace it.
