Default Camshaft variable timing solenoid problem

My "check engine" light is always on. Brought it to a garage and was told that need to fix the Camshaft variable timing solenoid.
They want $500 for just changing the part.

I am a new car user, don't know anything about car. Is it a really serious problem anyway? How much it usually cost?

Thank you....

Sounds expensive. Volvo dealers get about $95/hr. But if it's not done right, it could screw up your whole engine.

That adjusts timing on the motor. Try to get it fixed soon.
