Center A/C vent off the track
Hello! I'm the proud owner of a 2004 Volvo S80 T6, and I'm in love with my car. A small problem that has haunted me since the day I bought it (used) is the center A/C vents on either side of the hazard lights button. They don't appear to be broken, but the plastic flaps that move left and right don't seem to be on the "track". What I'd like to do is remove that center A/C vent and just take a look at the little flaps to see if there's anything I can do to reconnect them all together. I've searched all over but can't seem to come up with a solution. This is pretty much the most detailed guide I've found:
There are small plastic tabs that hold the vent onto the dash. I've tried carefully pushing these in or lifting them up with a flathead screwdriver, but no matter what I do, the vent won't budge (even if I use a knife as leverage, between the dash and vent). Since the vent won't pop back in without those tabs, I'm scared to get a little rougher with it.
I would definitely appreciate some wisdom if anyone can offer it. Floridian heat demands more cooling power than just the side vent.
