Check Engine Light

Check Engine Light
Afterhitting reallydeep pot holes or going over rough rail road tracks my check engine light comes on. Is there a way I can reset the light myself without haveingto pay my local mechanic to reset it? The car runsfine (knock on wood)with the light on. Could there be a short in the system somewhere? Once the code said an ox sensor was bad, another time the converter and a pump were bad. I had neither fixed. My Volvo is a 2001, S80, T6.
Thank you.
Thank you.

RE: Check Engine Light
Sounds like you were in a pretty dirty environment. Check your air filter first, see if it got excessive dirt in there. I had to change mine immediately after the dust settled here in San Diego after the wildfires. After driving throught the ashes for a couple of days, I had some kind of warning come on. My filter was clogged with ash. After changing it, the message went away. If it's your check engine light, you can borrow an OBDII scanner from Autozone (free of charge, if you do it on their lot, or you can "rent" it, meaning you pay for it and take it home, and have all your money refunded when you return it - either way they won't charge you for using it) and turn off the light (or "MIL" as it is called in the scanner's language).
