Default Control Arm re-installation HELP

S-80 2001 trying to replace the control arms with new bushings and reinstalling. Have the control arm mounted with the disc bushing loosely bolted, the front two bolts losely threaded and the control arm pulled down to try and get the ball joint stud into the outer control arm seat. The outer assembly will not move inward to get the ball joint in the control arm hole. I have a picture of the inner CV joint and it looks not right. Could the inner cv joint be keepng me from pushing the assembly inward to get the ball joint assembly in the seat? How do I correct this? Desperately need help. Also I took the inner boot clamp off to look at the inner CV joint and it has a heavy oil on it, not grease is this correct?

Did you unbolt the axle from the spindle?

No I did not. I contacted a friend who is a volvo mechnaic in SC and he just told me to to continue to tun the axel and bump it as it turned and to "get violent " with it if necessary. I di just that with the tapping of a 5lb hammer on the brake rotor at the center and she popped back into the cv cup and then I was able to get the ball joint to swing over into the control arm seat. His suggestion was to also put a come-a-long on the control arm and jack the control arm down so that I could swing the ball joint into the seat of the control arm. That was a great idea.

Yeah, all that works. Just for future searchers unbolt the center bolt. This will allow the axle to slide out of the hub instead of pulling the inner joint apart.
