Default Coolant temp sensor

I have a check engine light on my 2001 Volvo S80 T6, and believe it might be my coolant temp sensor. Is there a procedure to see if it is faulty. Perhaps I could measure the resitance, or use some other method? Any help would be much appreciated.

TIA

Bump, anyone have a procedure for this, I would like to be able to check this off my list of posible problems, or atleast what else would cause the car to run rich when cold(you can smell it).

The test would be OHMING the sensor and compairing it to a chart according to the temp of it.
But I don't have access to the chart.
