It's either the Control Module of the software, or both. "Tech" knows exactly what the broken part is refered to as. If you take it to the dealership, they will easily identify the issue.

Most likely the steering wheel module.

Dealer has to do it. They have to download software to make it work.

I think like $300.0 or so but not 100% sure.

update*

Catastrophic Failure while driving

guages started failing one by one, warning lights started coming on one by one, then all the warning lights went out then dash illumination went out. geartronic failed so I couldnt shift out of 4th gear (automatic also appears to have failed)

the car is currently underway on a 70 mile journy on a flatbed with all the windows down (they wouldnt go up). But yes powerbreaks and cabin illumination and door locks function well.

That's a lot of failing. When the electrical goes bad, it can be to a large degree, but you already knew that!

Please update us on what ended up being the issues.

Alternator, Battery and Time, $920 and now my service light comes on when I start the car but turns off a couple minutes into my drive.

Apparently Volvo has a funky take on "limp mode" Instead of telling me it just shuts systems down.

Have you had the code pulled to find out what might be tripping it up?
