Default Emissions System Service Required/Check Enging

Over the past year I have been getting a P0442 error-My check engine light comes on and the message Emissions System Service Required comes on. During that time I have had my fuel tank O ring (what the mechanic called it) replaced-there was a crack and a fuel smell persisted (This was done just last week but the check engine light just came on again), my gas cap replaced, my dip stick replaced and my fuel intake valve replaced.

What else can be causing these errors ?

Many thanks,

Jeff

About 100 things. Check out the O2 sensor. That's what was wrong with mine when I got that error. It seems to be the most likely choice, but like I said. 100 different things can be causing it. You need to have advanced auto parts check it out...they can get you a full read out of the specific problem-free.

my emissions service message turned out to be a mass flow air sensor!

And how much is that going to run you? Knowing Tech, he could probably tell you how to take it out, rebuild it, and put it back in good as new. Lol.

It could be a bad throttle body,Mass Flow sensor,A leak in the tank system, and a bunch more things.

When someone pulls the codes with an after market scanner it is hard to find the problem. There is limited info with the aftermarket codes.

Po442= leak in the evap system. Could be a bad Evap valve or a bad hose. They are very hard to find a leak on.

Just had the same message today. Took the car to the Volvo dealer and was told it was the Turbo valve. They are replacing it along with new software for $140.
