Just dropped off my 99 S80 non turbo at the mechanic. (not volvo dealership). Car was driving fine last night, started up this morning and the check engine light and engine service urgent lights were on. Drove to mechanic and the car was driving but could not get it over 10-12 mph. Any thoughts?

 

OK, update..the mechanic said the codes were for the throttle body and may be covered under the ten year warranty. So we checked and it was over by a week!, Anyway, he said he can do the throttle body but he can not do the software upgrade and would have to send it out and the total cost would probably be around 900 or so. I called the dealer and told him I have 3 volvos and was not happy and he called the rep and they said they would do the hole job for 575 plus he would give me another 10 percent off of that.

 

That is not that bad atleast they are helping you with it.

 

OK, getting the car back today and of course it needs an inspection. The dealer said that I would need to put 80-100 miles on it before it would pass inspection and wanted to charge me to 95 to do it, I declined. DOes the vehile need that much milage on it? My independntmechanic said more like 30-40. Just had the throttlebody replaced and computer upgrade.

 

It really depends it can go in 20 miles or 100 miles.
