Question Fuel Gauge completely dead

Hi everyone!

So, recently my cousin and I replaced the fuel pump on my 2006 Volvo S80 2.5T (with a Professional Parts Sweden pump). Car seems to be running much better, it was stalling out upon startup. However, now my fuel gauge is completely dead. So I thought the sending unit would be responsible, but nope.

We replaced the fuel sending unit with a Bosch replacement, and there is still no communication to the gauge. Everything is connected correctly, or so it seems. The gauge is completely dead, not even showing inaccurately. Does the sending unit alone account for sending data to the gauge, or does it work in tandem with the pump? Everything is good on the sending unit's side, so we are debating if we are going to have to pull the pump back out. Has anyone else had experience with this?

Thanks!

There are two level sensors, one on each side of the tank. One is built into the fuel pump and one on the passenger side. Which one did you replace? (I always thought one side did 0-1/2 and the other measured 1/2 to full - but I never personally replaced one of those pumps - always had one of my techs do them -

Did you check the wiring harness between the sending unit and the gauge? Sometimes a simple connection issue can cause a dead gauge, even if everything looks connected. Also, a bad ground could be the culprit. Before you pull the pump again, I'd trace that wiring carefully.
