Default Having Headlight Problems again.

99 S80 2.9 132k miles

In the last 1 year I replaced both headlights and also something called a register at the dealership because of the headlights not working. And I also replaced somthing called the relay at the dealership because of the headlights not working again. And sometimes light now when I start the car I see a message called low beam light blown with the lights not working but after a short time the lights come back again. Any idea's what could be wrong this time.

And also the car still was the original ABS module at 132k miles because I never had any problem with it. So might this be a sign that the ABS module is going bad.

The shunt might be burnt.
I would look under the dash and see.

It is under the drivers side. Once you remove the lower dash panel 2 torxes 25 screws you will see a computer looking thing on the left side kind of like by the body.
That is where the shut is located use link below to direct you to the one it should be.

Ok here is an update, I went out tonight and the headlights started to work again after two days. But this is what keeps on happening, sometimes they dont work and sometimes they come back again. Assuming it is a burnt shunt, any idea on how much it will cost to replace. And also I talked to the dealer and he says it could be a CEM problem also.

If it is the shunt and you fix it should be less than $100.00 I believe.
If Dealer fixes maybe $200.00 or so.

If it is the Cem and Dealer fixes I think around $1000.00.

Ok here we go again. After a few mounths my headlight problem is back again. Tech I know that you said the shunt might be burnt. Is the shunt the relay or are the two totally different things. Because the relay has been replaced. And how do I identify what the shunt is, like what does it look like. And how can I tell ifit is burnt if I find it. Do I have to replace the shunt or can I fix it. One night the headlignts dontwork and one night they work and the message dipped beam failer comes when the lights stop working.

The shunt is in the main computer under the dash. It is a flat long black thing that is plugged into the computer. Also see link. http://dtmwerks.com/

Ok this is now the third time im having this Bulb Failer dipped beam problem. About just 3 weeks ago I took the car to the dealership and they told me that the shunt needed to replaced and after that the lights came back again and the headlights worked fine about for 2 weeks but now im having the same problem again. The lights sometimes work and they sometimes dont work. I know back in March of this year I had to replace the resister at the dealership and I also replaced the headlights and after that I had to replace something called a relay. Is it possible that the shunt can go back in just two weeks or is someting elese the problem like a bad CEM. I will be going back to the dealer this Saterday hoping it does not turn out to be a costly problem like a bad CEM. Can the CEM be cleaned.

The CEM might be bad depending on how bad the old shunt was burned/melted.
