Default How long will it take and cost to change camshaft bearings?

I am looking to buy a 99 volvo s80 but there is a problem. The guy says that it will need the camshaft to be replaced so I wanted to know how long that would take and how much it would cost

Call a local repair shop. Prices change drastically depending on if the shop really wants to do it or not. Example, my shop will do it for $1,600, my other shop will change $2,800 because they really do not want to do it. The local dealer here may charge $3,700. You really need to check with who will be doing the work. I can tell you $1,600 and you it might cost you $2,000 to get your car here to get it done.

How much do they want for the car? How many other problems does it have?

Why run? Would it be a nightmare to get into?

Cams dont just magically go wrong. To me it says oil starvation\pressure loss. Don't walk, RUN away, even if it is free. Run because S80s get expensive to repair real fast even if you are DIYing it. Start with one thats been maintained well, otherwise, honestly, dont bother yourself. If you want a volvo fixxerupper, get a 98 or older.

First, there is no bearings on the s80 camshaft. Second,It will take about 2 hours top to replace a camshaft. Third,Make sure that the oil passsages leading to the camshaft are not clogged.

By the same logic theres no bearings on the bottom end of the connecting rods either. There are bearings, just not roller bearings.

The Cam bearings are part of the head and cam cover. If it needs new cam bearings you need a new head.
