Default How long should the air bag light (fault) testing take?

I have never seeing it done so hence is the question.
My car started showing the air bag light on all the time and i called the local inde. shop to have them test it.
I was hoping it would be a quick (similar to OBD II tester) hoockup, and it says what is possible culprit. They told me it will take at lest two hours and i need to drop the car off.
Does that sound right? What is actually involved in diagnosing the air bag system?
Thanks!

Depends what code is stored. Hopefully they have the correct SRS test resistors.

Default Thank you

Thank you ES6T,

but does it take so long to test it?
Also, is there any way I can test or poke with the driver side seatbelt lock? I suspect that could be the culprit, because the issue started after I had to stop abruptly.
Thanks again,

It takes a few minutes to get the codes. Then the fault tracing depends on the code and how experienced the tech is (just like with check engine light diagnostics)

An example, and common problem: The code is for the driver's side SIPS bag. If the guy is familiar with the car, he folds the backrest forward, checks the wiring along the hinge and finds its cracked. Needs a SIPS bag.

Thank you for the explanation. Helps a lot.
Is SIPS wiring problem common on S40 specifically & can I check it myself before going there?
Thanks!

Yep. Just fold the front seat backrests forward and look for broken wiring along the outer hinge
