Default 94 850: heater fan is squealing. can I take it out and grease the bearings ?

My fan intermittently squeals and shuts off. I am thinking if I can service it somehow that would fix me up for a while. Is it possible to get lubricant in there?

Also how do I get the arms on the glove box to release so I can get in there?

Thanks

You sure can. All accounts are that this is temporary at best but since it is a fairly easy job, you can redo it as necssary. Good to address this sooner than later because you will eventually need to replace the fan and resistor with this problem.

Here is a link to access the motor: http://volvospeed.com/Repair/pdash850.php

Thanks I got in done in around 45 mins put back together. it's a lot smoother now and more quiet although I am sure it will come back. Easy enough to replace though if and when I need to.

thanks again

Nice job, it will keep you going for a little while. Once it goes for good, they are not a lot of money to replace.

If your fan motor is running on all speeds now, then your resistor is ok and you'd only need to replace the motor is it's making noise. The problem comes as the bearings start to go out and cause enough drag on the motor that it starts to draw too many amps through the resistor as that will burn out the resistors and you'll still have a bad motor too.
