Just reached the 150K mile mark
Hello
My 99 S80 just reached the 150K mile mark. I would like to know is there a major service which I have to do at this mileage. Anything that needs to be replaced or checked. By the way the transmission was replaced at 117K miles with a brand new one so I think the transmission fluild should be fine. In the last 3K miles I also replaced the fuel filter, air filter and the front driver side balljoint. The trottle body was replaced at 80K miles 3 years ago. I heard that you need to clean the trottle body sometime so is that time to get it cleaned.

RE: Just reached the 150K mile mark
I was surprised that the Haynes book actually recommended changing the timing belt, tensioner and idler pulley every 40K miles. I quote from 1B-3, the 80K maintenance schedule:
So that would seem to be the Achilles heal of the S80, IMVHO.
EDIT: And in this case it's probably worth having the dealer do it, so if they botch the job it doesn't cost you $3500 for a replacement motor. Think of the extra money as insurance.
Note: It is strongly recommended that the interval is halved to 40,000 miles (64,000 km), particularly on vehicles which are subjected to intensive use, ie, mainly short journeys or a lot of start-and-stop driving. The actual belt renewal interval is therefore very much up to the individual owner, but bear in mind that severe engine damage will result if the belt brakes.
