I have an 04 s80 and two fobs. The keys will no longer latch when folded down. This is a bit of a pain when one has it in their pocket and gets stabbed with the key when they sit down sometimes.

The dealer was telling me that I would have to replace the whole thing just to fix what appears to be an internal mechanical issue with the key, front, part of the fob. He was saying that the key had a chip in it just as the remote and that both needed to be reprogrammed.

Is he blowing smoke or will the whole key fob need to be replaced to fix this? The remote itself works fine and the key works fine. The only thing that doesn't is it will not latch when I fold the key back into the side of the remote.
