Looking at a 2001 S80
Hey guys,
I am looking at purchasing a 2001 S80 as a daily driver but have never driven a Volvo before. I've found what seems like a decent deal for $6k but was wondering if you more knowledgable folk could give me some insight into things. (the car in question is here: http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...e&rdpage=thumb )
I've read a lot of reviews and reports but my main concern is making sure I get something reliable that will hopefully see me through 20-30,000 miles. Any help would be really appreciated
Thanks in advance!

I purchased my 2000 S80 in the fall of 07' for $6,500.
At the time, it had 105,000 miles on it. It died last month at 141,097 miles.
I had no trouble with it for 35K miles - but I changed my trans fluid and filter once a year
The car that you're considering isn't even a T6 - so in theory you should be fine as long as you stay on top of the maint.

Hi there..just want to give you my opinion on the s80.I don't know why there's so much "hate" for the s80 here.Have one, bought it brand new in 2003,has 54500 miles on it,2.9 non-turbo and besides a few minor problems like oxigen sensor, trunk lock,a few light bulbs I haven't had any problems..(let's knock on wood) whatsoever.Looks great, rides great, most comfy seats ever, get around 22mpg in city,28 hwy and I will change my trany fluid soon because I've been reading a lot that they go bad around 100k miles..of course ,it's the only thing made by GM on it that will go bad....no offence .If the car you're looking at is in good shape, test drive and if you like it buy it...but that's only my opinion,I could be wrong...Good luck with your decision !!!!

i have a 2003 s80 non-turbo with 134k. the only problems were fuel pump @85k and front halfshafts/cv joints last week. I think most problems with tranny are the turbos with more torque however, everyone including multiple forums said my shuddering was a tranny issue and it turned out to be cv joints. i average 19mpg city and up to 28mpg highway, love this car. The best thing to do is get one 2 years old for half the original sale price. Bought mine 2 years old with 25k for 18k! the original sticker was 40k! love this car!!!
